Effect of intraoperative infusion of ketamine on remifentanil-induced hyperalgesia
BACKGROUND Opioid induced hyperalgesia (OIH) is related with high opioid dosage, a long duration of opioid administration, and abrupt discontinuation of infused opioids in anesthetic settings. Ketamine is known to attenuate OIH efficiently, but methods of administration and methods to quantify and assess a decrease in OIH vary. We demonstrated the existence of remifentanil-induced hyperalgesia ...
متن کاملNalbuphine-induced pulmonary edema.
We report the occurrence of acute pulmonary edema in a patient receiving therapy with nalbuphine, a synthetic narcotic analgesic. Other potential causes of acute pulmonary edema were excluded. It is likely that all opiate drugs share the propensity to produce acute pulmonary edema, and nalbuphine resembles other opiates in this regard.
متن کاملA comparison of intrathecal magnesium and ketamine in attenuating remifentanil-induced hyperalgesia in rats
BACKGROUND Activation of NMDA receptors play an important role in the development of remifentanil-induced hyperalgesia. We hypothesized that in addition to ketamine, intrathecal MgSO4 could also relieve thermal and mechanical hyperalgesia in rats. METHODS Initially, 24 Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into control group, remifentanil group, surgical incision group and remifentanil combined wi...
متن کاملDifferential modulation of remifentanil-induced analgesia and postinfusion hyperalgesia by S-ketamine and clonidine in humans.
BACKGROUND Experimental studies and clinical observations suggest a possible role for opioids to induce pain and hyperalgesia on withdrawal. The authors used a new experimental pain model in human skin to determine the time course of analgesic and hyperalgesic effects of the mu-receptor agonist remifentanil alone or in combination with the N-methyl-D-aspartate-receptor antagonist S-ketamine or ...
متن کاملOpioid-induced hyperalgesia in a mice model of orthopaedic pain: preventive effect of ketamine.
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to assess the preventative effect of ketamine on the exaggerated postoperative pain observed in sufentanil-treated mice and its ability to improve the analgesic effectiveness of morphine during the postoperative period in an orthopaedic model of pain. METHODS In this study, we assessed the effects of ketamine on sufentanil enhancement of pain behaviour ind...
